                                        AKYARLAR


 


Akyarlar used to be called “Kefoalonia” which means the head of Peninsula in Greek. Akyarlar has one of the biggest coves of Turgutreis and is only 9 km. from the town center. This cove is the closest point to the Greek island of Cos (Istanköy island). Akyarlar has vey rich fish resources and a sponge diving point. Nowadays, it has become a popular tourist resort with its hotels, restaurants and crystal seashore. The strong winds make this place a paradise for windsurfing.


 


                                   LIGHTHOUSE – KEMER


 “Hüseyin Point Lighthouse” was built in 1931 by the French and is on the Akyarlar road. Below the lighthouse is a nice long beach and is a perfect choice for those who prefer uncrowded beaches. The locals call this beach “Sand Bath” for it’s clean sandy beach


            


                              ASPAT


 Aspat is one of the important historical areas on the peninsula and is 13 km. to Turgutreis. The origin of this name comes from Aspartos, meaning “unsuitable place for planting”. The city of Telmera was built here during the reign of Mouselous. Aspat was the shelter of Genoa pirates for many years. There is a magnificent castle on top of the hill. Castle of Aspat (Cıfıt) was built by the Genoas as a watchtower and for refuge. It was famous with seafarers due to the fresh water spring on the eastern part of the mountain. The saying goes that this water would not lose its taste even after a year of storage. There is also a stone building on the shore, which used to belong a Cretan man. 


                                          KADIKALESİ


        


Kadıkalesi is a perfect place for cycling and located only 4 km. to the north of Turgutreis. Kadıkalesi was an old Leleg city and the ruin of a Hellenistic castle is situated on the hill, which also gives the town its name. In Ottoman times it was the dwelling place of the local judge and get its name from this period (Kadıkalesi - castle of the local judge). Opposite the hill there is also a church from the Roman era. The cistern on the way to the church is one of the most typical symbols of this region and the historical fountain in front of it is still being used. Kadıkalesi is the choice for those who are looking for peace and tranquillity in a green environment.


                                          BAĞLA


 


Bağla is located to the east of Turgutreis, 15 km. from the city center. Bağla is the perfect place for campers and is popular with its clean beaches and excellent coves. It is also popular with touring boats as a refuge and for its long sandy beach, mandarin gardens and the clear blue sea.
