INSTRUCTIONAL MEETING FOR FISHERMEN
An instructional meeting was held in the Turgutreis municipality conference room to inform fishermen in the new maritime and fishing laws. The meeting that was organized by Turgutreis Coast Guard was attended by fishermen and cooperative directors from Gümüşlük, Turgutreis and Akyarlar.
Apart from the instructional value on new maritime laws and directives, the meeting became a ground for discussing the difficulties faced and the expectations of both sides. A major point that all fishermen unanimously agreed was the dangerous sailing of big yachts. They said that whilst fishing, the motorboats came too close at high speeds to cause small fishing boats to rock dangerously. Turgutreis Fishermen Cooperative director Mustafa Gündoğan said they would like to have a regulation in place limiting the speed of big yachts and motorboats until they reach a certain distance from the shore.
